Donald Lee Prater passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 4 pm to 6 pm Sunday, June 7, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will celebrate his life of 69 years at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 8, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel. In support of the health of our community, the seating is limited due to the social distancing requirement set by Governor Abbott. You are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy by selecting the icon.Donald Lee Prater was born on June 20, 1950, to Earnest and Lilah Prater in Lubbock, Texas. Donald married Brenda Ferguson on March 7, 1970, at Brenda’s home in Ralls, Texas, and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary. Don attended Midland High School and Odessa College. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Management from Texas Tech University in 1976. While attending Texas Tech, he worked as a loan manager for F.B.S. Financial and then Bank of the West. After graduation, Don became the branch manager for Dial Financial Corporation for a year and then moved to J. I. Case Credit Corporation as their territory credit management representative for six years. Don worked as the credit manager for Nunn Electric Supply Corporation for six years before working as the Life area manager for Combined Insurance Company in the next ten years. He was the director of sales for Family Heritage Life/Globe Life for the last 19 years. Don belonged to the Texas Tech Ex-Student Association and the Lubbock Association of Credit Management, where he served as vice president on their board of directors for four years and was named the 1988 Credit Executive of the Year. Don also served the Lubbock community through the Lions Club, United Way, and Sertoma International.Survivors include his wife, Brenda Prater; daughter, Susan (Jim) Holmes; two grandchildren, Alexandra Holmes, Samantha Holmes; two brothers, Ronald (Arolue) Prater, and David Prater.He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Lee and Lilah Mae Prater; and sister-in-law, Sandra Prater.
