The family of Don B. Peel will celebrate his life of 80 years on Friday, October 30, 2020 at a private family graveside service. The service will be recorded and be available on this page beginning at 6:00 p.m. He passed on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. In support of the health of his family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service. You are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy on this page.Don Bennett Peel was born October 3, 1940 to Rudolph “Bud” and Narthula Peel in Lubbock, Texas. His mother died when he was 8 years old and Don was raised by his father, Bud, and stepmother, Nell Cogburn Peel.Don graduated from Monterey High School in the first graduating class to attend all 4 years at Monterey. In the 1960’s, Don served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant. Don attended Texas Tech and received a degree in Business Administration in 1967. Don married Yvette Gibbs in 1965 after they met working at Hemphill-Wells Department Store. They moved to San Antonio where Don began working for Joske’s Department Store in San Antonio. Don became a buyer for Joske’s Men’s Department traveling all over the world including Hong Kong and spending lots of time in New York City. Don later moved back to Lubbock where he got his real estate license and then his broker’s license. Don was in the rental business for the past 35 years.Don & Yvette traveled all over the world including Australia & New Zealand this past Christmas. Besides traveling, Don also enjoyed having lunch each Monday with several of his friends from church. Don was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church.Don is survived by his wife, Yvette of Lubbock; his son James of Lubbock; daughter Stefanie and Stephen Rankin of Lorenzo; grandson Forrest Rankin of Wheat Ridge, CO; granddaughter Kamber Rankin of Lubbock; great-granddaughter Hadley Rankin of Lubbock; sister Paulette and Gary Pillers of Plano.
