The family of Danna Dixon will celebrate her life of 85 years at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She passed on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. We invite you to view the live-streamed service on this page, sign her virtual guestbook, and download her memorial keepsake to your device for printing.Danna Sue Orr Dixon was born on December 23, 1935, to Henry Dayton Orr and Mildred Kirksey Orr. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission High School. She earned an associate degree at Colorado Woman’s College. On June 26, 1956, she married E.B. Dixon, who was the love of her life for 58 years until his untimely death separated them. E.B. remained the love of her life until her last breath.They lived briefly in Fort Worth, Texas, where Danna worked as a geophysicist assistant for Gulf Oil Company. They then moved to Lubbock in 1958 where she worked for Pan American Petroleum Company. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed designing and crafting projects for her family and many friends. Danna was admired for her attention to detail and range of capabilities which included women’s casual outfits, formal wear, wedding dresses, drapes, and bedding sets to name a few. She had difficulty shopping for clothes because she knew she could “make it better”. Danna’s favorite job was working with her friends at Rachael’s Fine Fabrics where she was able to share her sewing expertise with customers.She raised three children and was very much involved in their lives. As Girl Scout leader, team mom, church pianist, and organist, children’s choir teacher, she willingly served wherever there was a need. Danna also had a bent towards serving the elderly. For years she would take aged widows on their errands as they strived to maintain their independence. Danna was a leader in The Daughters of the Pioneers, serving in several capacities for many years. She trained her rescue dog, Scruffy, to be a certified comfort dog, and visited hospitals and nursing homes to bring moments of cheer to those suffering. In 2013, Danna was named Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by the Home Instead Senior Care Salute to Senior Service Program. However, her greatest act of servanthood was becoming the primary caregiver for her own mother. Serving was not something Danna did, it was who she was – a servant.As her children grew families of their own, she actively supported her grandchildren in all their activities. She was also a constant source of love and attention to her great-grandchildren for the last nine years.Danna peacefully stepped into Heaven on October 6, 2021, with family by her side. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Joe Kirksey Orr, and her beloved husband. Danna is survived by her son Bret (Jayme) Dixon; daughters Ebeth (Steve) Dawson and Cara (Kyle) Smith; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
