Carolyn McClanahan

February 7, 1943 - January 28, 2018

Jay Carolyn McClanahan passed from this life on January 28, 2018 surrounded by her family. We will gather for visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 74 years on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers followed by burial at Peaceful Gardens. 

Carolyn was born on February 7, 1943 to J.B. Springer and Pansy (Drennen) Springer in Lubbock, Texas. Growing up, she attended many different schools. The last one she attended was Spur High School in Spur, Texas where she met and married Kenneth McClanahan on April 18, 1959. Together, they raised three children in Lubbock. Kenneth preceded her in death on December 10, 2007. Carolyn worked as a billing supervisor in the Department of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for many years. She retired from there in 2002. After retiring, she worked part time at Accolade Home Health. Carolyn had a caring, kind and generous spirit. She was always happy and loved to visit with everyone she met. She cherished her family and loved spending time with them, along with traveling and spending time with her many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband: her parents; one sister, Sharon Springer; one sister-in-law, Fay McClanahan; three nephews, Preston McClanahan, Scott Metsgar, and Adam McClanahan; and two great-nephews, Mike McClanahan and Andrew McClanahan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jaylee Hightower and husband, Paul of Lubbock; Kathy Snelson and husband, Larry of Lubbock; and Glenn McClanahan of Lake Ozark, MO; brothers, Johnny Metsgar and wife, Vivian of Azle, TX; Ronnie Metsgar and wife, Tricia of Lubbock; J.B. Springer of Owasso, OK, and Glen Springer of Broken Arrow, OK; brother-in-law, Lewis McClanahan of Ft. Towson, OK; grandchildren, Eddie Hightower, Krysta Hurt and husband, Sam; Tyler Snelson and Kendra Snelson, all of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Cory Hegdal and Celia Hurt of Lubbock. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other extended family members whom she loved dearly. 

The family would like to say a special “thank you” to Accolade Homecare and Hospice.
