Robert (“Bobby”) Wayne Pierce, 77, of Lubbock, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 8th from 4:00-6:00 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel & Memorial Designers (6025 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas).
A family graveside service will be on Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service to celebrate Bobby’s life will take place at 3:00 pm at Second Baptist Church (6109 Chicago Avenue) with a reception to follow at Texas Tech Club (550 University Avenue).
Bobby was born to William Robert Pierce and Eula Embry Pierce at Saint Mary’s of the Plains Hospital in Lubbock, Texas on November 17, 1946, and grew up in a loving home. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1965, and he continued his education from Texas Tech University graduating in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. While at Tech, Bobby was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. Most importantly while at the University, Bobby met and married Karen Curnutt in 1968. Bobby served in the National Guard from 1970 to 1976.
Bobby and Karen remained in Lubbock and had two children, a son, Chad (1969), and a daughter, Kari (1975). In 1968, Bobby began working for Marquis Supply Company as a delivery driver and worked his way up becoming sales manager in 1972 and eventually owner in 1981. He subsequently sold the company in 1996. While at Marquis, Bobby became a respected leader in the cleaning supply industry, served on the Board of Directors, and was named the product chairman of Standardized Sanitation Systems, a national commercial product buying group. In 1994, Bobby started Professional Maintenance, Inc., a commercial contract cleaning company serving the Lubbock area which has grown from 6 employees to over 100 employees. He believed that success was a result of hard work, perseverance, and passion; and his legacy of this strong work ethic can also be seen in his children and in his grandchildren.
Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family—especially on the coast near Port Isabel, Texas, and at the family’s Ruidoso, New Mexico cabin. He also loved coaching Chad and Kari for years in city league basketball and baseball, fishing, hunting, and golfing with his friends (member of Lakeridge Country Club), and watching his grandsons’ sporting events. Bobby was kind, loved to tell a good story, was always ready to close a deal, and beamed with pride when he spoke about his kids and their boys.
Bobby was preceded in death by his loving parents Bob and Eula Pierce; brother Jackie Pierce; and sister Pat Hill.
He is survived by his wife Karen; son Chad and his wife Marianne; daughter Kari Estes and her husband Rob; grandchildren Will Pierce, Ben Pierce, Gray Estes, and Preston Estes; and his loyal dog, Lucy, of 15 years.
Pallbearers will be Will Pierce, Ben Pierce, Gray Estes, Preston Estes, Kyle Curnutt and Casey Curnutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Peoples, Gary Hughes, Carlos Byrd, Gene Graham, Elvin Verett, and his golf buddies.
In lieu of flowers, Bobby designated Second Baptist Church (6109 Chicago Avenue, Lubbock TX, 79424) where he was a member, as the preferred recipient of any memorials (or give to a charity of your choice).
The family wishes to express its gratitude and appreciation to Drs. Mounir Borno, Wael Tello, Richard Henderson, and their staffs as well as the Lubbock Heart Hospital for their compassion and care over the years. The family (and we know Bobby) also wishes to express their sincere thanks to the customers and employees of Bobby’s businesses.
Bobby’s loyalty, sense of humor (not always politically correct), fierce competitiveness, and outgoing personality will be missed by his family, friends, and business associates. We thank God to have known him and how he enriched our lives.
