Angel Berlingeri, Jr., age 71, of Lubbock, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 14th, 2025 after a valiant and long-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family in his coastal getaway, which he had grown to love so much.
He was born in San Antonio, TX on June 28, 1954 to Angel Berlingeri, Sr. and Betty Jane (Asher) Berlingeri and was the oldest of five children. Two key themes would develop throughout his life, a love for athletics and a passion for serving others. While he excelled in many sports, football became his signature sport, eventually earning him a position on the Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Team from 1972 to 1976. This started a zeal for Texas Tech University and its athletic programs. While he was a huge fan of all Tech sports, his passion for football topped them all. Each and every home game you would find him just outside the stadium doors with his football friends, at their well-planned, expansive tailgate. He enjoyed celebrating the sport he loved while serving anyone who was able to join them.
He graduated with a Sociology degree, with an emphasis in Criminology— thinking he would enter into criminal justice in some way. But, in 1977, a journey started for him as he interviewed for, then accepted, a career with the Equitable Life Assurance Society. His desire to serve others found a launching pad that would last for the next 48 years. He was hired into the John Gaschen Agency, and helped that team grow and excel, as he developed agents and advisors.
This continued on in the latter stages of his career, first with his longtime friend and business partner, Jerry Thormahlen. He finished his career with a firm he helped establish, “Gaschen, Berlingeri, and Casebolt”. He did much to help his clients while he was able, and made sure that would continue for years to come. He will be remembered and loved by all he touched in his long career.
His greatest passion, ultimately, was to care for those closest to him, including his son James of whom he was so proud of and loved dearly, his granddaughter Jessica who stole his heart from day one, his parents, his siblings, his extended family, and his many friends.
The greatest moment in Angel’s life came when he was saved and redeemed by His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This faith changed the depth of his love for others, giving him the ability to love them with the love he received from Christ. It also sustained him through many trials he would face, including his battle with cancer. The verse that confirmed his faith is Romans 10:9-10—
“9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Those left to celebrate his life are his son, James Berlingeri, his granddaughter, Jessica Berlingeri, his siblings Andrew Berlingeri and his spouse Michelle, Cindy Berlingeri and her spouse Barbara Duncan, James Berlingeri, Rebecca Berlingeri and her spouse Elaine Tintera, and a host of dear friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, and mother, among other family and friends as well.
The Celebration of Life services for Angel will be held Friday, September 5th, at 1 p.m. at Lake Ridge Memorial Chapel and Designers, 6025 82nd St., Lubbock, TX 79424. www.memorialdesigners.net
