Harold Buchanan

The family of Harold Buchanan will celebrate his life of 89 years at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Lake Ridge Chapel. He passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020. In support of community health, social distancing requirements set by Governor Abbott will be observed. The service will be live-streamed and available for thirty days on this page.  You are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy by selecting this icon.Harold Jonce Buchanan, Sr. was born on June 8^th, 1930 to Albert and Effie Rollins Buchanan in Snyder, Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Thompson, Jewel “Sis” Moore, and five brothers, Jess “Snooks”, Doyle, Houston “Buddy”, Billy James, and Kenneth.  Harold had his first job at the local newspaper, Scurry County Times. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1948. At the age of 19 Harold started his own commercial printing business in Snyder. Shortly after starting his business he was drafted into the army and proudly served our country for two years. In 1953 he met and married the love of his life, Genell Bell, and they were married for 67 years. Harold and Genell owned and operated Buchanan Printing in Snyder from 1968-1995. After retiring, they lived in Carrollton, Hillsboro, and eventually made Lubbock their home.Harold was a member of The Snyder Lions Club, a square dance club, and an Airstream club serving briefly as president. He was a private pilot for 15+ years while living in Snyder.  As a veteran, Harold was privileged to take the Texas South Plains Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2016.   He enjoyed traveling, fishing, woodworking in his shop, listening to bluegrass music, performing with Genell as Porter Wagner and Dolly Parton, and spending time with family. He was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. Despite battling cancer for several years, Harold maintained his positive attitude and endearing sense of humor. He was a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Harold was a special person and loved by family and friends alike.Survivors include his wife, Genell Buchanan; their son, Butch Buchanan and wife, Cheryl; their daughter, Pamela Bunch and husband, Win; and their son, Dennis Buchanan and wife, Kim Beth; five grandchildren, Justin Buchanan and wife, Jo Ellen; Allison and Elizabeth Buchanan; Jodi Hartman and husband, James; Courtney Thurman and husband, Cole; and six great-grandchildren, Harrison Buchanan, Wyatt Hartman, Lexington Hartman, Chisum Hartman, Emerson Thurman, and Rhone Thurman.
