Alice graduated from Bowie High School in 1950 and began her career at Farah Factory. Her stellar work ethic and drive allowed her to pursue multiple office management and accounting positions throughout her career, with El Paso Housing Authority being her most memorable and longest tenure. She married in 1962 and had two beautiful daughters, which were her pride and joy. She left El Paso to spend time with both daughters and their families embarking on new cities including Albuquerque, New Mexico; Austin, Texas; Toronto, Canada; and Lubbock, Texas. She was a competitive Bunko and Canasta enthusiast with her lady’s group. It was her passion for art that led to her winning several notable awards for her oil paintings at the South Plains Fair. As an active member of her community, she served High Neighbors, volunteered at Covenant Hospital, and Meals on Wheels with her sweet friend, Joe Putman. She could often be spotted around town in her Candy Apple Red Ford F-150, which she handled with panache. Alice was an avid sports fan globetrotting to catch Tiger Woods on the green and Michael Jordan’s magic on the court; you could always find her chasing the sport’s greats. With pride, she always looked her best through her unique, bold style. She lived her life with high expectations of herself and others, told it like it was, and was the fiercest advocate for those around her, truly living life on her terms.Survivors include her children, Darla and husband Patrick Porter of Lubbock, Texas; Shawna and husband Jacques Fattouh of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Deandra Porter, Donovan Porter, Jade Fattouh, and Georges Fattouh; nieces and nephews, Lisa and husband Jeff Thompson, Jennifer Rubalcaba, Mark Rubalcaba and husband Adrian Lopez, and Ivan Enriquez, Jr.She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Carmen M. Salazar; and sisters, Edie Rubalcaba and Edna Burkholder. Her tenacious spirit will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to shine in those that were touched by her. The family extends their gratitude and thanks to the wonderful doctors who helped care for her so intently, affectionately coining her “Diva” and “Wonder Woman.” Thank you to Dr. Kerry Hendershot, Dr. Mark Johnson, Dr. John Zias, and Dr. Jeremy Brown. We would also like to thank all the family and friends that supported her and encouraged her through prayer.
