Marion J. “Smitty” Smith

The family of Marion J. “Smitty” Smith will celebrate his life of 88 years at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at The Refuge Church. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. In support of the health of everyone, face coverings are mandatory while attending the visitation.  You are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy on this page.On September 24, 1932, Smitty was born to Marshall and Mina Smith in Petersburg, TX. He served in the US Air Force from November 16, 1954 until September 16, 1958.   Smitty married Margenell “Margie” Rhodes on November 1, 1969 in Lubbock.He was a member of the Honor Guard. Smitty served proudly as a Gideon for many years. He was also one of the early members of the Monterey Church of the Nazarene which is now The Refuge. Smitty was an entrepreneur – for 25 years, Smitty operated Smith Management Water Systems.Along with his parents, Smitty is preceded in death by two children, Scott and Stacy Smith; two grandchildren, Colby Sawyer and Felicia Smith; and two sisters, Wanda Shadden and Velma Jo Hemphill.Survivors include his wife, Margie Smith; children, Tammy Sawyer, and Lynn Smith; 4 grandchildren, Natasha, Lindsey, Nathan, and Zachary; 3 great-grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, and Landry.
