The family of Barbara Hogan will celebrate her life of 83 years at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 10, 2021, with Mass at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. We invite you to view the live-streamed service on this page, sign her virtual guestbook, and download her memorial keepsake folder to your device for printing.Barbara June (Smead) Hogan entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 4, 2021, surrounded by her family.She was born on January 28, 1938, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Robert George Smead and LaVanche (Word) Smead. She married James Douglas Hogan on February 4, 1954, and traveled the world as an Air Force Wife, later becoming an administrative assistant upon returning to her hometown of Lubbock, Texas. She was a member of the first graduating class of Monterey High School in Lubbock (1956) and later graduated from International Business College. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rev. Bruce Neil Smead and his wife Eleanor, and by her oldest son, James Donald Hogan.She is survived by her husband, LTC (USAF-Ret.) James D. Hogan, children Diana Hatch (Michael) of Gainesville, Texas, John Hogan (Cynthia) of Lubbock, Dan Hogan (Patsy) of Firestone, Colorado, Dcn. Robert Hogan of Lubbock, her granddaughter Jennifer Hogan (David Scott) of Lubbock, whom she raised and who cared for her during her final years, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.What Barbara treasured most in her life was her family — especially her children and grandchildren. She kept this message in her kitchen:”A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of house I live in, what my bank account totals, or what kind of car I drive. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
