With deep sorrow and aching hearts, we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Daniel Bruce Spray, who left this world on October 6, 2025, at the age of 57.
Daniel was a kind, generous soul whose presence brought warmth, encouragement, and quiet strength to everyone he met. He had a deep love for words — especially poetry — and used them not only to express himself but to inspire others. Whether through a thoughtful line, a handwritten note, or a quiet conversation over coffee, Daniel knew how to make people feel seen. His hugs melted your heart while also giving you strength that you weren’t aware you had.
Born on August 28, 1968, Daniel devoted much of his life to educating and guiding others. He began his career as an English teacher, where he shared his love of language and learning with countless students. Later, he became a trainer, bringing the same passion and care to helping adults learn so they could grow in their career and confidence. No matter the role, Daniel believed deeply in the potential of people — and he never hesitated to help someone along their path.
Daniel was known for his love of his family, friends, furbabies, nature, bikes and scooters, finding joy in the simple pleasure of a ride. He could often be found with a coffee in hand, sharing stories, laughter, and meaningful fellowship with his friends. His community meant everything to him, and he gave freely of his time, energy, and heart.
We will all remember Daniel as someone who was always willing to lend a hand, listen with compassion, and lift others up without judgment or asking for anything in return. He had the best heart — generous, steady, and true.
Daniel is survived by his adoring wife, Toni Spray, his kid, Brittany Hays, his mother, Vickie Spray & his brother Dustin Spray; his bonus mom, Barb Spray; his fur children, Kylie, Mattie, Chacho, Phoebe, Doug, and Hoozie; his brother in-law Bryan Hays, sister in-law Amber Hays; his Niece and Nephews, Sadie, Riley, and Chuck Hays; along with the many family & friends whose lives he touched over the years and who touched his in return.
A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 1 p.m. at the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, 4111 University Ave, with reception to follow at the LHUCA Ice House. In honor of his spirit, those wishing to remember him are encouraged to share a poem, a memory, take a quiet ride, or simply offer a helping hand to someone in need — just as Daniel so often did. “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength. Though he is gone far too soon, the love he gave and the lives he touched will continue to ripple outward for years to come.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations in his honor can be made to Bikes Together Denver, a community outreach in Denver that spoke to Daniel’s heart. https://mtyc.co/itue1f
