Monty Karen Allen, a cherished mother, grandmother (affectionately known as Meme), great-grandmother, sister, and beloved friend to so many, embarked on her next adventure on December 7, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on June 18, 1942, in McKinney, Texas, Monty lived a life filled with love, connection, hard work, and creativity.
She is survived by her son, Dexter (Cristy) Allen; daughter, Shannon (Tim) Grissom; and grandchildren, Derek (Laura) Allen, Stefan Allen, Lianna (Jimmy) McIntire, and Alexa (Brad) Chelleen. Her legacy lives on through her great-grandchildren, Alexis Cannon, Sadie Chelleen, Scottie Chelleen, Leighton McIntire, and James “Mac” McIntire. Monty is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Donna Baker and John S. (Karen) Baker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Monty was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Allen; her father, John “J. G.” Baker; and her mother, Frances Baker.
Throughout her life, Monty wore many hats. She spent many years driving trucks during wheat harvest, worked in various secretarial roles, and discovered her creative side at the age of 40 when she became the proud owner of Monty’s Flowers in Friona, Texas. After relocating to Lubbock, Monty continued to share her floral artistry at United Market Street, creating beautiful arrangements for the community she loved. As her health began to decline, Monty transitioned to a checker position, where she continued to enjoy connecting with people until her passing. Above all, Monty loved the work she did, but more than that, she loved the daily interactions and connections she shared with those around her.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations be made to Lubbock Impact in her memory.
