Sandy was born in Dallas, Texas to Marti and Embry Hines on August 4, 1967. She went to high school in Bridgeport Texas. She married Curry Blackwell on July 29, 1989, and recently celebrated 35-years together. She attended Texas Tech University and graduated from Caruth Dental Hygiene of Baylor. Sandy enjoyed her 30-year career as a dental hygienist, where she impacted the lives of her cherished patients who returned to her for many years. She served her sorority Alpha Phi as President of the House Board and Treasurer of the Alpha Phi Alumni Chapter at Texas Tech and was active in Live Oak Church.

Sandy was faithful in Bible Study Fellowship, enjoyed her bunco nights, socializing with her friend groups from every stage of her life, and relaxing at home with her dogs and husband. Sandy was a true and loyal friend. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Sandy loved life and valued family and her faith above all else. She recently moved to McKinney to be closer to her children, grandchildren, parents, and sister. She was at her happiest being “Gandy” to her grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her husband Curry Blackwell, her sons Brayden (Kristen) and Tyler (Kristen), parents Marti and Embry Hines, sister Holly Hines, grandson Cooper and granddaughter McCall.

Sandra Suzanne (Hines) Blackwell, 57, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 11, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lubbock Meals on Wheels, or may be sent to Caruth School of Dental Hygiene with the notation Sandy Blackwell Scholarship.

Jeff Casey and I are praying for your sweet family. Though I got to be near her only few times for Tyler and Kristen’s engagement party and wedding, she was so radiant, kind and endearing. Embry, Marti, and Holly, my heart breaks for each of you. I know that, like me, you take great comfort in knowing that Sandy loved Jesus and made Him her top priority. His precense in her life shone like the noon day. Even her skin glowed with His favor. That was the last thing I said to her when I saw her at a meal after Sharon Kaker Blake's service. Sandy was one of the sweetest women I've ever known. And it's apparent that she made a huge impact in your family and on the world around her. Your family will be in my prayers and I look forward to the reunion we will all have in God's perfect timing. Her service was absolutely beautiful. You all did an incredible job of memoralizing her life and her vivacious spirit. I'm leaving this here for those who may not understand the hope we have: 1 Thessalonions 4:13-18. I love you all. Sandy and Curry were among the first to welcome us to church and invite us to Sunday School 25+ years ago. So many shared memories and watching our kids grow up. Sandy was always so lively and lovely. You knew it was a good day when you saw her and you were going to leave with a smile on your face. Love and prayers to the families.

Sandy loved her family and friends fiercely. We all were so lucky to be the recipients of Sandy’s joyful yet no nonsense attitude. She and I could talk for hours about things I do not talk to many about- I will miss you Sandy. Hearing her tell stories about her beautiful grandchildren- she really came into her own as Gandy. I’m so happy that she got to live a full and beautiful life with so much love around her. It does not feel right that she was taken from us all so soon in life but I am grateful that she did not suffer and is surely on to the next big thing in heaven where she will have the ultimate peace and no longer any of the stressors and pain of life. I wish I could join you all to mourn this terrible loss and celebrate this beautiful life. ❤️

I am so saddened to hear of Sandy’s passing. Sandy was so welcoming, vibrant & kind. She & I worked in the same office building many years ago, but more recently she & i worked together when she filled in at my current office. She had not changed a bit & was just so beautiful. Sandy will be missed. I will be praying for you all.

Sandy was such a beautiful lady inside and out. I had the pleasure of knowing her through our kids going to school together at Whiteside Elementary. She was kind and caring and such a good mom and loved her boys so much! I’m so very sorry for all of you and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Sandy was my pledge sister in Alpha Phi. She was always a breath of fresh air. Kind, generous, smart, friendly, and beautiful. She had a soul that matched her outside and radiated the beauty that comes from a relationship with Christ. While I haven’t seen her in person for a long time we stayed in touch on social media. It’s so clear that she lived a vibrant life, lived well and was well loved. I was so sad to hear about her passing and know she will be deeply missed. I take comfort in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior and left behind a beautiful legacy in her sons and grandchildren. My prayers are with all of those who knew her and especially her family.

I am so sorry to hear of Sandy’s passing. She was my dental hygienist for many years and I always enjoyed our visits.
