William Charles McCormick, known by many as Bill or Red, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his residence. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 69 years on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Followed by a graveside service in Ropesville, Texas.
William Charles was born on November 24, 1948 to Charlie and Ina (Billie) McCormick in Lubbock, Texas. On December 27, 1969, William married the love of his life, Frances Jean (Jeanie) Forbus at the First Baptist Church of Ropesville.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Jean (Jeanie) McCormick, two daughters, Whitney Leigh Clotfelter and husband, Craig H; Amanda Leigh Holmes and husband, Neil W; grandchildren: Palmer Quinn and Easton Charles Holmes; Caleb McCormick and Keira Vivienne Clotfelter; sister, Paul Cawthon and husband, Homer; nephew, Jonathan Cawthon and wife Beth; great niece, Evelyn Cawthon; and aunt, Evelyn Hudgens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie T and Ina Faye (Billie) McCormick. Memorial contributions are welcome, and the family suggest the Shriners Hospital for Children, Alzheimer’s Association or other charities of your choice.
Bill was an avid lover of sports and supported the Ropes Eagles and Texas Tech Red Raiders. As a youth, he excelled in baseball, football, basketball, track, and band. He graduated from Ropes High School and was elected Mr. RHS in his senior year. He was an Eagle Scout and a FFA Lone Star Farmer. He supported his wife with all Ropes school events and FBLA activities. He served as co-room parent at Wester Elementary for many years. As an adult he was a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite, and a Shriner. He enjoyed volunteering as a clown with the Khiva Shriners Klowns and bringing joy to people as Bumfuzzle the Clown and he served as their treasurer for life. One of his proudest accomplishments was being selected to join the Royal Order of Court Jesters. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a reservist from 1969-1973 as Sergeant (E-5).
He graduated from Texas Tech with a B.A. while working fo Merchants Fast Motor Freight Lines and afterward served as a sales representative for Shaw Industries for over 28 years. After retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher at Ropes ISD. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock and the Richard Umstot Sunday School Class. He served in different capacities at FBC as a department secretary, building security, and elder outreach. He enjoyed being a Gideon and visiting with incarcerated prisoners.
Bill was a special person who never met a stranger, was bigger than life, generous, and loved to entertain people with his wonderful personality. Most of all he loved his children, family and friends with all his heart .
