Kenny Oscar Motl

Kenny Oscar Motl passed away on January 24, 2020. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will celebrate his life of 60 years at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Anton First United Methodist Church. Friends are invited to share memories and expressions of sympathy for the family to cherish in the area below the obituary.Kenny Oscar Motl was born on November 14, 1959, to Cecil and Betty Jo Motl in Littlefield, Texas. He grew up in Anton, Texas, where he attended school and was involved in various school activities. Kenny enjoyed showing pigs and won “Grand Champion” pig. He was “Mad Dog” of the year in football. During his senior year of high school, he was driving along “The Drag” in Anton, where he found the love of his life. Carol Benton and her brother were playing with a frisbee; she ran out to the curb to retrieve a missed toss and noticed Kenny had stopped to pick up the frisbee. Kenny and Carol’s eyes made contact, and the romance began for over a year before he left for college. He had received a tennis scholarship from Frank Philips College in Borger, Texas, where he played for a year before transferring to Tarleton State. Kenny earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Tarleton State. Kenny married Carol Benton on July 3, 1982, in Shallowater, Texas. The young couple moved to Kansas, where he worked with Dekalb Swine Breeders for a year before moving back to Lubbock.  He went to work at South Plains Electric Coop, where Kenny was still employed for the past 34 years. Kenny had to go on disability in November 2018.  One of Kenny’s hobbies was raising dahlias, which earned him the “King of Dahlias” of the Lubbock County Fair.Kenny was an active member of Anton United Methodist Church. He never met a stranger. If you wore a cap, Kenny would stop to say, “I know you” or “Where did you get that cap?”  He had a love for flowers especially dahlias handed down from his grandma Rochelle! He had one of the biggest hearts, and contagious smiles! His favorite thing was going to Lake Texhoma with his SPEC buddies and fishing with his family.  Kenny also enjoyed conversations with his wife, Carol, over a cup of coffee in the backyard. He loved his family with the utmost passion.Survivors include his wife, Carol Motl; two daughters, Krystal Motl and significant other (Harley Blackwell), Jessica Motl and significant other (Dan Brown); three grandchildren, Abigail Guinn, Ethan Blackwell, Jacob Blackwell; beloved dog, Jack; three sisters, Kaye Swain, Sue Rephan, Judy and husband Aubrey McBride; numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Kay and Betty Jo Rochelle Motl; two brothers-in-law, Robert Pete Swain, and Stan Rephan.
