Our beloved Winona Faye Johnston went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 17, 2018. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of friends and family on Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, 1 p.m. at the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
Winona was born on August 2, 1932 to W. W. and Bertha (Renfro) Matney in Paducah, TX. She graduated from high school in Taylor, Michigan and married the love of her life, Robert Johnston. They moved to Lubbock and Winona worked for Dillard’s and was proud to be a pacesetter in the handbag department. Winona was also a nail technician at several different locations, including The Sherrick and her own home. She enjoyed playing bingo and poker and watching football and golf. She was a member of the Eastern Star and loved getting dressed up in her ball gowns to attended special masonic functions with her husband. Her passion in life was her family, spending time and loving her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Winona was full of love and laughs and she will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and two brothers, Carl Dean Matney, and Jerry Don Matney.
Winona is survived by her son, Bob Matney of Lubbock, daughter, Terry Lynn Sabastian, granddaughters, Brooke Borchardt and husband Moe, and Stormy Matney; grandson, Adam Hale; great-grandchildren, Zachary Perkins, Skylar Perkins, Presley Lair, Paxton Lair, Hagen Borchardt, and Taylor Borchardt; two sisters, Patsy Jones, and Jeanie Nichols; and brother, William “Bill” Wayne Matney.
