The family of Virginia “Granny” Rowden will celebrate her life of 83 years at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 23, 2022, also at Lake Ridge Chapel. She passed on Friday, August 19, 2022. On December 6, 1938, Virginia Othel Rowden “Granny” was born to Charlie Ellwood and Sarah Annie (Cox) Combs in County Line, Texas. She married Ernest Ray Rowden on December 21, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas. She graduated from Lubbock High School. She worked at Burger King for many years. Following Burger King, she worked for the Lubbock Police Department, parking control division and retired on January 31, 2000. Granny loved spending time with her family at the deer lease, lake, and both ranches, 40 Acres & a Fool and Railroad Ranch. She cherished the holidays, pancake breakfasts, collecting pigs, and antique shopping. She never missed an opportunity to enter her collectibles in the South Plains Fair, where she was awarded many ribbons over the years. She absolutely loved people and was known as Granny by everyone. She is cherished and admired for her positive attitude.
Survivors include her children, Randy (Shirley) Rowden, Larry (Denise) Rowden, and Debbie (Stephen) Callender; grandchildren, Laci Hay, Dusty (Lainie) Rowden, Dawn (Chance) Williams, Cory (Kelsey) Rowden, Chase (Jessica) Callender, Callie Potts and fiancé Dustin Fuller, and Tanner Callender; great-grandchildren, Korbyn Rowden, Raylee Potts, Rhiannon Hay, Caynden Mynear, Payton Callender, Lane Callender, Jase Callender, Jody Potts, Ethan Hay, Katie Potts, along with two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Ray Rowden; brother, Delton Combs; and grandson, Herschel Potts.
