Vernon Ted was born September 7, 1923, in Dimmitt, Texas, to the late Netum Hern and Lillie Wankan Steed. Vernon graduated from Morton High School and served in the Air Force for three years. He worked in electrical sales for GE and Fields and Company. He was a member of the Wolfforth United Methodist Church and Seekers Sunday school class. He enjoyed private flying, cooking for family, and traveling in his RV with Janice. He loved God, his family, and friends. He was a self-made man who faced many challenges with courage and dignity.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janice; his three children Pat Roberts of San Antonio, Texas, Martha Kluting and husband, Robert of Kerrvile, Texas, Ted Steed and wife, Brenda of Arlington, Texas; brother, NH Steed and wife, Peggy of Lubbock; sister, Carolyn Kilcrease of Midland, Texas; stepdaughters, Stacy Slater of Lubbock, Shannon Thornton and husband, Ritchie of Plainview, Texas; brother-in-law, Shawn Berryhill and wife, Donna of San Angelo, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathie Fitzgerald and husband Gary; daughter and grandson, Paula and Tristan Martin; sister, Katherine Miller and husband, Nick Miller; and step son-in-law John Slater.
