Vernon “Mick” Carr, 85, of Lubbock, TX passed away on September 16, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on December 18, 1938, to Vernon and Iva Carr.
Mick Carr graduated high school in 1957 from Anderson High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. After receiving a Bachelors’ degree from the University of Cincinnati, Mick enlisted into the United States Army to serve 3 years at Fort Rucker near Dothan, Alabama. After his service in the Army, Mick returned to the University of Cincinnati and received a Masters’ degree in 1965. He then began his 30-year career as a high school science teacher. Mick enjoyed providing a practical education, involving scientific information widely useful in common life. Mick enjoyed his career and greatly enjoyed teaching and visiting with many great students. In 1967 he met the love of his life, Donna Moak. They were married in December of 1969 and were together up to his death. In March of 1973, they welcomed their son, Todd, into the world. Over the years, the summer breaks allowed for many memorable road trips. During the 1980s those trips were taken in a Dodge utility van that was converted into a camper. Upon retirement Mick was able to purchase a class C motor home for the family vacations. After Todd graduated and embarked on his career, Mick and Donna continued their travels throughout Texas and the Inter- Mountain West, finally settling down in Lubbock in 2013. As an educator, Mick will always be remembered as a fun teacher interested in the future success of his students. Mick will also be remembered as a loving father who was stern when necessary but fun most of the time. Mick always enjoyed fishing, whether it be at the ocean shore or in a mountain stream. Other enjoyed activities were driving a quiet stretch of highway, watching a good football game and enjoying a great steak!
He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Carr and son Todd Carr.
