Susan Kay Bryant Hart was born on March 4, 1945 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She passed away on December 6, 2024 in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of RJ Ritchie and Iona Ritchie, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Hart and her sister Barbara Horton.
Susan is survived by her only child Shawn Hart and his wife Lauren. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Zoey, Michaela, Hadin, Eden, Rebekah, Charlie, and Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Ella.
Wife:
Sue and Chuck married on June 9, 1976. Chuck soon adopted her son and they became a family. Sue showed strength through Chuck’s battle with cancer, and after his passing, kept his picture next to her so he was always the last thing she saw before she went to sleep. In her last few months of life Sue spoke about her late husband often. In the end everyone knew that he had come and told her
“Babe, it’s time to go home..”.
Mother
Sue would tell you that her greatest happiness in life was her son Shawn. Whether is was telling stories about raising capons, rescuing baby ducks, or eating everything in the house, including using the flour to make tortillas, being his mom was what she cherished most. She was so proud of the man he became and his ministry.
Teacher
Sue’s passion for education began early in her life and continued until her passing. She had a particular love for Middle School English and her students knew to both fear and love her. Her students were her passion and she loved them all.
Pastor
Sue’s unwavering faith in God touched everyone around her. Sue became a minister during a time where a lot of people didn’t agree with women heading the church. She faced the challenge head on knowing that through her, God would do his work. She was active in Kairos as well as Walk to Emmaus and God truly did his wonders.
Grandmother
While Sue only had one child she was blessed with many grandchildren. She supported every dream and aspiration and was always there to be a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. She passed along her knowledge of sewing, watched every episode of The Golden Girls over and over, proof-read every paper, and never missed a performance, game, or ceremony. So much of her will carry on because she taught her grandbabies everything she knew.
“I love you, my darlings…” -Grandma Sue & Mamo
Friend
No matter where she lived Sue always had strong friendships. When she started living at Raider Ranch she made some amazing friends along the way. She enjoyed going out to special dinners, playing cards, happy hour, and fellowship. All of the friends in her life allowed her to be more than just a mother and grandmother. She was able to be her independent self which is something she valued so much.
Wife, Mother, Teacher, Pastor, Grandmother, and Friend; Sue will be missed by so many.
She is flying high with all the butterflies.
