Obituary

The family of Sue Fortune will celebrate her life of 90 years at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, May 13, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.  We invite you to view the live-streamed service on this page and sign her virtual guestbook. Edna Sue Hood Fortune was born in Plainview Texas to Shelby Raymond and Lena Orean Meredith Hood on December 12, 1931. Sue excelled in her education and was a Key club member. She studied primary education and earned her teaching degree from West Texas State University. She had two girls Carla Sue and Connie Lou with her first husband George Snyder. She married Royce Fortune on March 24, 1961, in Lubbock Texas. They had one daughter Meredith Ann. A lifelong educator, Sue taught in the Lubbock Independent School District for 33-years. She was an Elementary school teacher at the Honey, Murfee, Stewart and Bean Campuses. Sue taught primarily 3rd grade -specializing in math and handwriting. She was an extraordinary teacher. Sue was a Daughter of the American Revolution. An avid singer, Sue was a former member of the Sweet Adelines’ and the Prairie Winds chorales. She was a breast cancer survivor. She was a supporter of the Arts. She had been involved in many groups including Order of the Eastern Star, Solo Squares, and the Lubbock Women’s Club. She was a former member of the Sunset Church of Christ and a member of Broadway Church of Christ. Sue Hood Fortune passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby and Orean Hood; husband Royce Fortune; her twin sister Betty Lou; three brothers Raymond, Bill, and C.L.; and her daughter Connie Lou Fortune Muehl.

Survivors include her children Carla Fortune Robnett, Meredith Fortune McAlister and husband Greg; her grandchildren Jason Mack Robnett, Joshua James Robnett, Jalie Robnett Crawford, John David Muehl and his wife Becca, Raymond Muehl, Kristen Leigh McAlister, Shannon Mae McAlister, Caden Allen McAlister; her great-grandchildren Sophia Crawford, Elijah Crawford, Zeph Crawford, Heidi Crawford, Bo Muehl and Flynn Muehl
