I am so thankful to have had Shirley in my life. She was always loving, caring, and "mothered" everyone around. I loved seeing the way she loved Van (and how he loved her) her face lit up every time she saw him. She gave the best hugs and was great company. She had such a kind heart and I will forever be thankful that she was part of my life.

I have many sweet memories of Mrs. Kountz. She taught us so many wonderful daily lessons. She was our home economics teacher and she always had a kind word, she taught us to plan ahead, and gave many hugs of encouragement. I know she will be so missed by all of you. I was blessed to have her in my life.

I have known and worked with Shirley Kountz for many years in New Mexico and Illinois. She trained the NMFCCLA officers on leadership and public speaking for many years.. She always had such a positive attitude and the kids always responded to her. She even worked with the New Mexico teachers several times to give them new ideas to use in their classrooms which went over well. She and I also worked together doing workshops for kids and teachers. She was such a motivator for everyone she came into contact with. After I retired and moved back to Texas to take care of my mother, I lost tract of her and often wondered what she was doing. She will definitely be missed by everyone who ever came into contact with her. She always had a smile and a hug for everyone. God bless you Shirley until we meet again. My prayers for the family. May God bring you comfort at this time.

Mrs. Kountz was a great teacher. She was my fourth grade teacher & is my all time favorite. She inspired me to become an educator. I am so grateful to have been blessed with the opportunity to be one of her “Star Learners”. Juan Carrion Lamesa High School Class of 1999

Mrs. Kountz, You were one of the most impactful teachers I ever had and I am deeply grateful to have been in your class in 1990. Your students felt loved, felt smart, and felt capable of achieving anything we wanted. You made learning incredibly fun and I felt so safe in your class. I’ll never forget your joyful, fun voice singing the history of Texas and sharing a love of country with us. What a special teacher. Shana
