Sharla Long

July 31, 1949 - April 28, 2018

Sharla Jean Long, of Shallowater, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 7 to 9 PM, May 1, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 68 years on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 3 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel.

Sharla was born on July 31, 1949, to Bill and Rosalyn (Stephenson) Gilliland in Ft. Worth, TX. On July 12, 2008 she married J.L. Long in Lubbock. Sharla loved to sing and was actively involved in the church choir at Red Bud Baptist Church. She was a prayer warrior and minister of the gospel. Her passion was helping and caring for people.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Leland Smith, and two daughters, LaDonna Wiggins, and Linda Ortiz.

Sharla is survived by her loving husband, J. L. Long; children, Sherry Flippin, Donnie Wiggins, Jr., Lonnie Wiggins, William (MeLissa) Smith; grandchildren, Rachel and Kaitlyn Flippin, Donnie Wiggins, III, Andrew Wiggins, Sarah Tracey, Jamie Wiggins, Katie Penko, Justin Wiggins, Dustin, Brandon, Jason, and Caden Smith, Mara Lara, Tamara Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, and Angel Ortiz; 19 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Carolyn Sue (Richard) Kinast, Ronald Eldon (Teresita) Gilliland, Cheryl Renee (Awny) Swaidan, and Renell Lynn Sterling.

I am so sorry to hear of Sharla’s passing.....I really wish I could have known what was going on with her, I only find out a day before the funeral.... We have known Sharla and J L for years and loved them very much she will be missed. We are praying for the family....

While working at Heartland House, Sharla made such an impact. She would help put my mother to bed, and would say a prayer over her. Mom is still touched by that loving act. We mourn with you, but we cannot help but rejoice for Sharla to be in the presence of Jesus.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have met Sharla, but I know and work with her sister Renee in San Antonio. Renee spoke highly of her sister and how hard she worked. Sharla will surely be missed.Sending my sincere condolences for the family and especially my friend Renee. I will continue to pray for the family.
