Sarah Brown

Sarah Ruth Brown, 78, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on June 10, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1946, in Abilene, Texas, to Rev. Robert and Mary Brown. Sarah was a beloved sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, remembered for her boundless love, lifelong learning, and lasting impact on everyone she met.

She is survived by her brother, Bobby Brown, and his wife Mignon; her nephew Heath Brown, his wife Jessica, and their children Ethan and Emma; and her niece Heather Brown. She is also survived by her brother Wesley Brown and his wife Connie; nephew Darby Brown, his wife Rissa, and their children Rylee and Hunter Aleman, and children Claire and Joseph; Caleb, Jude, and Catie; nephew Robert Brown, his wife Micaela, and their children Roland, Addison, and Maeve; nephew William Brown, his wife Alyssa, and their children Jocelyn, Saige, and Lincoln; and niece Rebekah McLarty, her husband Collin, and their children Isla-Rose, Maisie, and Ainsley.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved chihuahua, Chico.

Family meant everything to Sarah. Her nieces, nephews, and their children were the joy of her life. She poured her heart into their lives—attending games, school events, traveling with them, helping with homework, and simply showing up in ways that only Sarah could, sometimes as the most vocal fan in attendance.

A lifelong learner and educator, Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree from McMurry University and went on to earn a master’s degree from West Texas A&M University, as well as a mid-management certification. She devoted over 30 years to teaching at Seymour High School, where she became a beloved figure in the community. Her passion for education was evident through her involvement in academic and extracurricular activities, UIL events, and especially in her cherished One-Act Play productions. The friendships and memories she made during her years in Seymour remained close to her heart.

After retiring from public school teaching, Sarah moved to Lubbock to be closer to family. Retirement didn’t slow her down—she taught at Texas Tech University in the College of Education, mentoring future educators, and also taught in the Texas prison system, where she fondly referred to her students as her “boys.”

Sarah gave her time and talents generously, most recently helping with sound and media at Oakwood Fellowship during worship services. She had many hobbies—ceramics, counted cross-stitch, singing, photography, and reading—and was an avid movie and TV enthusiast, with a vast collection of classic films and memorabilia. She was a collector of the things she loved, always with the people she loved in mind.

Sarah’s warmth, energy, and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oakwood Fellowship, 2215 58th Street, Lubbock, Texas. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock. Visitation with the family will take place on Monday evening, June 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock.
