Sarah Eiland Noret was born May 4, 1924, in Munday, Texas. She passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023. She was the youngest of four children born to Clarence and Jesse Eiland. She moved to Lamesa with her family in 1938. Sarah worked in the Eiland pharmacy at a young age. Because she wasn’t tall enough to work behind the counter in sales, they put her up front selling cigars and cigarettes. She was full of energy and always wanted to work.
She attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, at the age of 16 where she received a degree in music. She was in the Texas Tech Marching Band. Sarah played the clarinet, saxophone, piano, and organ.
After marrying Skeet Noret, the love of her life, on December 10, 1944, they settled in Lamesa when he returned home from the army. Together they opened the Sky-Vue Drive-in in June 1948. Sarah often made the homemade chili for the famous chihuahua sandwich that was enjoyed by all. The Sky-Vue began its creative and successful theatre business as it expanded into indoor movie theatres around Texas and New Mexico.
Sarah loved her family and friends and the communities where she lived and worked. She held within herself a “steadiness” full of love and wisdom. She was truly a friend to all. Sarah was the last of the Eiland siblings to pass. Always, in so many ways, we will remember her true greatness and inspirational guidance.
Sarah is survived by her three daring daughters and families, Nancy Noret Moore, Linda and her husband Charlie Smith, and Cindy Noret Ware. Sarah’s grandchildren are Clint Pomroy and his wife Angela, Shelly Noret Schedler, Jason Moore, Ryan Smith and his wife Milena, Amy Castro and her husband Eric, Sarah Bagwell and her husband Caleb, Amanda Reed and her husband Chuck, and Meredith Ware. Great-grandchildren are Eiland and Gracen Pomroy, Evan Schedler, Paloma, Margo, Eleanor and Filomena Smith, Andrew, Thomas and Nathan Castro, Charles, Amelia, Elise and Luke Bagwell, Oliver and Elliot Reed. Along with the extended Eiland, Crawley and Palmore families.
Sarah will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
