Sandy Denise Scholz, passed away peacefully at her home in Lubbock, Texas, on May 12, 2025, with her husband at her side after a brave lengthy fight against cancer.
Born on December 13, 1965, in Lubbock, Texas, Sandy grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico and graduated from Hobbs High School. She went on to earn her nursing degree from South Plains Junior College, later returning to school at Texas Tech University to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy. For many years, she dedicated her career to working in nursing homes in Lubbock and Brownfield, where her compassion and care made a lasting impact on her patients and their families. In 2008, Sandy married the love of her life Klaus Scholz.
Sandy had a playful spirit and a knack for pulling pranks, often making family gatherings full of laughter. She loved nothing more than putting together family photo albums and catching the latest movies with her family. Sandy was the self-proclaimed “Santa Claus” of the family, ensuring everyone had gifts to open during the holidays.
Her heart was especially big when it came to animals, and she was an ardent lover of rescue dogs and cats. Sandy’s zest for life and infectious humor will be genuinely missed by all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, Klaus Scholz; mother, Donna Townsend; daughter, Ashley Smith (Robert); son, Zane Slocum; granddaughter, Ellie Mae Smith; step-daughters, Leesl Selmon (Brently) and Heidi Scholz; and brothers, Michael Kelley (Beckie) and Dan Kelley; and her furry friends, cats, Max and Minnie and dogs, Duke and Rosie..
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence “Larry” Kelley and stepfather, Gaylord Ellerman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, where friends and family are invited to gather in honor of Sandy’s vibrant spirit.
