The family of Sandra Speck will celebrate her life of 80 years at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at the Lake Ridge Baptist Church. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She passed on Saturday, March 6, 2021. We invite you to sign her virtual guestbook, and download her memorial keepsake folder to your device for printing here on this page.On December 15, 1940, Sandra Ann was born to James Wilson Ellis and Mary Vyanna Ellis in Lubbock, Texas. She married William E. Speck on June 17, 1966, in Muleshoe, Texas.Sandra (aka “Nana Ma’am”) was a very social lady with a love of music and all things flashy and sassy. She did not have time for boring. Some of her last wishes were to make sure her nails were painted, her hair fixed, and don’t forget the lipstick! There were many things she enjoyed in life such as game nights with friends, camping, fishing, and traveling. She loved her family and was very proud of her grandchildren. Sandra spent some time as a volunteer at the Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital. One of her greatest passions was music. She was a preschool music teacher, a member of the Jubilant Community Women’s Choir, church choir, and ladies trio at church. She also played piano and organ at church. But most of Sandra’s proudest and fondest memories were with the Prairie Winds chapter of Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus. She sang with them for 29 years. It brought many opportunities and joy to her life. She made lifelong friends, got to wear flashy and sometimes silly costumes, and had plenty of opportunities for travel. What more could she ask for?Sandra loved Jesus. We know that as she closed her eyes for the last time in her earthly body, she opened them to her new spiritual body and Jesus’s open arms. She’s singing and dancing (or “choreography” for those of us who are Baptist!). She’s probably making her rounds catching up with old friends, loving family members she’s missed… and probably pestering someone for a sparkly halo or sequined gown.Survivors include her brother, Jimmy, and wife Nedra Ellis of Post; daughter, Karen and husband Gary Williams of Lubbock; son-in-law, Brian Pope of Lubbock; grandchildren, Amy and husband TJ Smith of Midland, and Jacob Carty of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Shelbie and husband Brandon Smoker of Midland, Alexis, and husband Josh Fulloon of Kilkivan, Australia, Taylor Smith of Midland, and Bryson Smith of Midland; great-great-grandchildren, Everett, Evelyn and Barrett Smoker, and Baby Fulloon due in May; many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilson and Mary Vyanna Ellis; husband, William “Bill” Speck; son, Rodney Speck; daughter, Robin Pope.
