Sammy Jean Jones-Dodson

Sammy Jones-Dodson, a sweet and Godly soul, departed this world to be with her Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Born on April 18, 1938, in Brownfield, Texas, Sammy’s life was a testament to the power of grace, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Raised in the warmth of her mother, grandmother, and beloved uncle Clyde’s love, Sammy grew into a woman of remarkable strength and tenderness. Her caring nature touched every heart she encountered, and her love was a beacon of light to her family and friends.

In 1957, she married George Jones, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion. Their home was blessed with three children, Riky, David, and Cindy, who learned from their mother the true meaning of loving kindness. Sammy’s grandchildren, Jenifer, Adam, Amy, and Jaclyn, and great-grandchildren, Dax, Jude, Nora, Briggs, Navy, Xavier, Alexis, and Elias were the joy of her life, each receiving the same sweet care and love she so effortlessly bestowed.

Sammy’s brilliance shone through in all she did. From her early days as a secretary to becoming an Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer at Wells Fargo, her intelligence and dedication were evident. Yet, it was her life-saving wisdom, both in the advice she gave and the prayers she offered, that truly defined her.

A poet at heart, Sammy’s words often danced on the page, much like the melodies she played on the piano at her beloved church. Her life was a song of devotion, with every note filled with the love of Christ. Isaiah 40:31 speaks to her journey: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Sammy embodied this verse, her faith renewing her strength, carrying her through life with grace and serenity.

After George’s passing in 2001, Sammy found love again with John Dodson, whom she married in 2008. Together, they celebrated 15 years of marriage, filled with shared joys, family gatherings, and a mutual love of the Lord.

Sammy’s life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and sweet kindness. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her spirit will forever be a part of the family she cherished so dearly.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Dodson; her children, Riky Jones, David and Kay Jones, Cindy and Doyle Sooter; her grandchildren, Jenifer Jones, Adam and Bailey Baker, Amy and Aaron Malzahn, and Jaclyn Perez; and her great-grandchildren, Dax, Jude, Nora, Briggs, Navy, Xavier, Alexis, and Elias. Her sister Mary Martinez; John’s children; Linda Jones, Lori Gibbs, and Shawn Dodson.

Pallbearers will be Riky Jones, David Jones, Adam Baker, Jason Jones, Daniel Jones, Jimmy Thornton, and honorary pall bearer Brad Jones.

She is preceded in death by her first husband George Jones, Mother Delilah Gwen Tarbox, her father David Sparks, her beloved uncle Clyde, her brother Jimmy Tarbox, brother Danny Tarbox, and great-granddaughter Sadie Baker.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to honor Sammy with memorial donations to Bethany Baptist Church.
