He began his music education with piano lessons, moving to alto saxophone in middle school and then tenor and soprano saxophones in high school. His education was ongoing as he had the opportunity to learn from, perform with and record with many outstanding musicians throughout his life. For Royce, music was more than an occupation. “Music does not supplant God in my life. But, I have discovered God through music. Without it, I would have a difficult time with spirituality. But having the privilege of working with some of the finest musicians alive, and watching them create, is a spiritual experience. These people aren’t talented. They are blessed.”Survivors include his mother, Virgie Irene Chambers of Brownfield; siblings, Regina Kuipers and husband Ivan of Cottonwood, AZ, Michael Chambers and wife Karen of Brownfield, David Chambers and wife Debbie of Aumsville, OR, Darla Chapman and husband Scott of Las Cruces, NM, and Darrell Chambers of Brownfield, numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Franklin Chambers.
