A Celebration of Life for Roy Andrew Middleton will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 2 pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 3321 33rd Street, Lubbock. Reverend Elliott Powell is officiating. On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 5 pm to 6 pm, a visitation will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel at 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock. He died on April 1, 2021, at the age of 87. His parents, Raleigh and Pauline Lee Middleton, lived on the Texas Tech Campus at the time of Roy’s birth.Roy graduated from Lubbock High school in 1952, where he ran track and was part of a winning team in the four-man relay. In 1956 Roy graduated from Texas Tech with a BBA in Finance. At Tech, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation, Roy left Lubbock to join the Naval Officer Candidate Training school in Bainbridge, Maryland. He returned to Lubbock in 1958 to begin his career and passion in building, developing, and selling real estate. He began his career working for Cecil Jennings and H.C. Lewis selling Caprock Club Homes. Later he oversaw mortgage lending at Briercroft Saving and Loan before becoming President of State Savings. While at State Savings, Roy led the city to build outside Loop 289 with the construction of Melonie Park South. At the time, many thought that Lubbock would never expand outside Loop 289.In 1975 Roy opened his own real estate company, specializing in land development, commercial construction, and townhomes.Roy served on many corporate and civic boards. In 1980 he served as Chairman of the Board of the Methodist Hospital when the South Tower was begun. He served on the building committee of Carillon during the construction of the Windsong addition. He was the longest-standing member of the Lubbock Board of Realtors, serving as President. While serving as President of Texas Tech Alumni Association, he was involved when the now Mackenzie-Merket and the Frazier Pavilion were being built. Roy was the ultimate Red Raider, nearly always having a double T on his shirt or cap.Roy was an avid snow skier and skied with his Ski Bull pals for 35 years. He was 83 when he last skied down the slopes that he loved.Roy is preceded in death by his parents, his younger brothers; Tommy Middleton of Lubbock, and James Middleton of Plano, Texas, and son-in-law; Richard Laramy.Those left to cherish his memory are his best friend and precious wife Linda of 31 years. They married on June 30, 1990, and Roy often said to her, “God must love us a lot to let us have so much fun together.”He is also survived by his sister, Carol Dallas (Gerald) of Lakeway, Texas. His children; son, Mark Middleton (Nancy) of Austin, “sweet baby daughter” Mitzi Laramy of Pflugerville, sons Chris Coke (Melissa) of Lubbock and Kyle Coke (Jennifer) of Lakeway, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include Raleigh and Tristin Middleton of Austin, Vaughn Laramy of Pflugerville, Austin and Meagan Coke of Lakeway, and Brett Coke of Lubbock.He is survived by his sister-in-law Sue Middleton of Plano, Texas, His pal, and administrative assistant for 35 years, Trudy Gamble, many nieces, and nephews, along with many, many dear friends.The family would like to thank Dr. Yalamanchili, his nurses, and all the nurses at the Joe Arrington Cancer Center and staff for the wonderful and compassionate care Roy received. And the nurses and staff of Hospice of Lubbock for their help and loving touch during this difficult time.
