Rosie Young Hall, good and faithful servant of God, went to her eternal reward on April 20, 2025, slipping away peacefully in her sleep and surrounded by family. She was born on February 27, 1935 to parents R. “Bud” and Okle Young in Wynona, Osage County, Oklahoma. As her mother used to say, “she was born sick”, having come into the world with acute lung issues. Given her longevity and early health struggles, it is noteworthy to mention she was born just weeks before the historical event known as “Black Sunday”, the darkest day of the era known as the Dust Bowl.
She faced many health challenges throughout her life, including convalescence and treatment in a San Angelo sanitarium, separated from her parents, at the age of nine. Since she wasn’t physically able to help with farm chores, Rosie’s “job” was to help out in the kitchen, where she learned to cook alongside her mother. She excelled in her school studies, finishing second in her class at Dimmitt High School in 1954. The following day she married the love of her life, Gearld E. Hall, on May 23, 1954 in Littlefield. Together they began their life together as husband and wife and were blessed with five children, one of which she never got to care for, deceased on the day of his birth.
Through many challenges, trials and joys of life they made a life together. Along the way she took care of her family, prepared and cooked many a delicious meal, became an accomplished, award-winning seamstress and quilter and always managed to be there for each and every one of us, dispensing advice, love and care, and most important to us, her prayers. Her mind and wit remained sharp until the end as she regaled us with many memorable stories and jokes to make us smile. She will be sorely missed.
Our Momma loved the Lord with all her heart, having come to know Him at an early age. She and Daddy were faithful church members, both serving in various church offices – he as Deacon and Sunday School Secretary, and she as Songleader and Church Secretary. We especially remember her beautiful voice and know she is worshiping her Savior and singing at the top of her now perfect lungs. By example, they taught us to be good stewards of our time, talents and finances.
In their retirement years Gearld and Rosie traveled quite a bit across the nation and spent many summers in Colorado, where she often managed to “out-fish” all of us. Her grandchildren were so precious to her as she strived to have a unique and special relationship with each one. She loved to play Skip-Bo, Dominoes and Wahoo with her grandkids, and the games were always quite spirited, competitive – and no mercy was ever given or expected!
Rosie is survived by four children: Sharon Hall of Lubbock, Keith (Sara) Hall of Yukon, Oklahoma, Rodney (Kathy) Hall of Lubbock and Michelle (Bryan) Thornton of San Marcos; grandchildren Jeanalee Adams, Samantha Hall, Sawyer Hall, Caleb Hall, Rebekah Hall, Chelsea Thornton, and Kateland Thornton; great-grandchildren, Riley and Cash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gearld Hall, her parents R. “Bud” and Okle Young”; infant son, Kevin Randall Hall; sisters Pauline, Ruth, Bobbie, Mary and Christine and brother Marshall.
