A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ron Hixson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers in Lubbock, TX, followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends. He passed away with family by his side on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Covenant Hospital after a long illness.
Ronald Gilbert Hixson was born September 20, 1944, to Ralph Hixson and Rosella Hixson (Alden) in Corry, PA. He married Victoria Grow on September 16, 1967, in Bear Lake, PA.
Ron graduated from Corry High School (Corry, PA) in 1962, after which he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army, retiring after a twenty-one-year career. His military service included tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic on the USNS Corpus Christi Bay and in Germany, where he served as a tank commander.
He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 2006. After retiring, he continued to serve as a volunteer driver for the VA and logged more than 5,000 hours and 100,000 miles helping fellow vets get to their doctors’ appointments. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and the VFW.
While his health permitted, Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife, Vicki, in their RV. They spent several summers in Pennsylvania and traveled nationwide, attending numerous major NHRA drag racing events. Ron also loved vintage cars and owned several of them throughout his life.
He loved his dogs, but none more than his faithful companions, Maggie and Hazel. Above all else, he loved his family. He was exceptionally proud of his sons and took every opportunity to share that they were both firefighters.
Ron is survived by his wife, Vicki; children, Chris (Bonnie) and Matt (Tiffany); grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, and Amanda; and siblings, Carol Gates and Donald Holzheimer, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard.
