Rodney Harell Trotter passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, in Lubbock.Rodney was born July 15, 1953, in Lubbock to James Henry and Frankie (Scott) Trotter. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1972. Rodney then attended Texas Tech University and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, graduating in 1976, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Upon receiving his electrical engineering degree, he then spent several years working for Texas Instruments in Lubbock, Dallas, Hong, Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, where he met Moonping Chen-Chou, the mother of his child, Rachele. Upon his return to Lubbock, Rodney continued his education, receiving his Ph.D. in Physiology from TTUHSC in 1992, and M.D. in Pediatrics in 1996 from TTHSC School of Medicine. He was also board certified in Pediatrics. Rodney was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the Texas Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.Rodney enjoyed the time he volunteered at the Sick Children’s Clinic here in Lubbock. During the last 10-12 years, he worked in rural hospitals in Texas and other states. He was very dedicated to the children he cared for and was adored by their parents. Rodney was also aware of the need for properly educated and trained physicians and had planned to teach in St. Kitts, beginning shortly after his untimely death.Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Melvin Henry and Lillie Vera (Dixon) Trotter, and Charley Hargis and Sarah Katherine (Kirk) Scott.He is survived by his beloved daughter, Rachele Lee Trotter of NY, his siblings, James Richard Trotter and wife Phyllis of Dallas, Joy Annell Trotter of Lubbock, and Roger Jeffery Trotter and wife Joan of Trinity, TX., along with many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
