Robert Thomas Green (Tom) went to be with Jesus on January 2, 2023. He passed from this world due to natural causes and was spared any prolonged illnesses.
Tom was born in Irving, Kansas on August 21, 1947, and raised in Wichita, KS where he graduated from Wichita East High in 1965. From an early age, Tom displayed signs of natural talent for music which over the years developed into world-class musical ability.
After graduating from High School, Tom toured and performed with various secular music groups. Then in 1968, the course of Tom’s life changed forever and a new course was set not only for his life but for the lives of countless others. In a very unexpected turn of events, Tom gave his life to Jesus on April 18, 1968. It was a dynamic transformation and Tom never looked back or waivered in this faith. He attended Bible College at Trinity Bible College in Tulsa, OK.
Shortly after he graduated from Bible College in 1969, Tom met and married the love of his life Sherry Young on August 31, 1972. Together they toured the world, performing their original music, preaching the gospel of Christ, and making lasting friendships everywhere they went.
They moved to South Florida in 1977 and raised three children. Eventually moving to New Mexico in 1993. And finally to Lubbock, Texas in 2004.
There was no one in the world like Tom Green. He was an extraordinary man who knew everything and could do anything. He was the ultimate musician with the ability to play the guitar as you’ve never heard, as well as any other instrument.. any genre, any time, transpose, and compose any piece of music.
He was an amazing cook, baked pies from scratch, made the hottest salsa, and did the dishes too.
He loved his classic cars, could work on the engines, and reupholster the entire interior. He was an avid biker with his Harleys and loved the Nortons and Triumphs too.
Skilled marksman, water skied like a boss, wrote songs, sang, painted, drew pictures, and was quite the storyteller. If you were with him, you were going to be laughing.
He read thousands of books, traveled extensively, and knew how to dress like a gentleman.
This man fit in anywhere. Drop him on a ranch, in the ocean, on a mountain, or in the city, he’d thrive. He had it all, intelligence, wit, creativity, athleticism, strength, courage, and compassion.
He was a strong man with a tender heart. He loved like no other, cried often, and would shoot you straight. He loved Jesus. He trusted Jesus. He believed Jesus. Tom was defined by his faith and it was in this regard, that Tom impacted so many people’s lives.
Tom was loved. By his family, by his friends, and by Jesus. He will be truly missed.
