Robert (Bob) Alexander Edwards passed away from a sudden illness on September 16, 2024, at the age of 93.
Bob was born on February 26, 1931, in Crowell, Texas to Herbert Kyle, Sr. and Mary Elnora Edwards. Bob graduated from Crowell High School in the Class of 1948 and from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls in the Class of 1952. After graduation, Bob went into active duty with the U.S. Navy serving from 1953 to 1957 where he was assigned to the Flag Administrative Unit, Commander Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet, Coronado, CA.
After completing his Naval service Bob went to work for First Federal Savings and Loan of West Texas in Lubbock, TX. Shortly thereafter, on November 28, 1958, Bob married Marthana (Marty) Edwards, and they were married for over 60 years until Marty’s passing in 2019. Bob and Marty had two daughters, Marianne and Margie.
Bob would continue to rise through the ranks in the banking industry eventually serving as the Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of the board of First Federal ultimately retiring from banking in February of 1994.
Bob was an avid golfer and maintained a single-digit handicap for over 60 years playing his last round in January of 2013 at the age of 82. Bob shot his age or under 125 times on 8 different courses beginning at the age of 71 when he shot 70 at Lubbock Country Club. Over his golf career, Bob played on 158 different courses in ten different states as well as Mexico and the Bahamas. Bob also greatly enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
During their time in Lubbock Bob and Marty were members of First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, and Lakeridge United Methodist Church.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings, H.K. Edwards, Jr. and Mary Roark, as well as his wife Marty Edwards.
Bob is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Dwight Overton of Lubbock, and daughter Margie Edwards of Dallas. “Daddy Bob”, as they affectionately call him, is also survived by his two grandsons, Eric & Halie Overton of Dallas, and Shawn & Jamie Overton of Lubbock, as well as six great-grandchildren, Hutch, Adalyn, Calvin, Vivian, Olive, and Ellie Overton.
Bob’s family will be forever grateful for the love and care he received from Becky Bengoa with the M & I Torres Caregiving Team and the Raider Ranch community.
Honorary pallbearers are Dwight Overton, Eric Overton, Shawn Overton, Hutch Overton, Calvin Overton, Ryan Carmichael, Jason Strefling, and Jonathan Strefling.
A private family graveside will take place.
