Richard Standefer was born July 12, 1949, and passed safely through the gates of Heaven on July 23, 2018, at the age of 69. Born in Plainview, Texas, Richard graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. He continued his education at Texas Tech University and served in the Army National Guard. On December 28, 1978, he married the love of his life, Malinda Clawson. They were devoted to each other for almost 40 years, and for the past 12 months that devotion remained, in sickness and health – a true testament to their love for each other.
Richard worked as an independent sales representative for Diamond Plastics Corporation for 36 years. His career allowed him to do what he loved – meet people and visit. Richard never met a stranger. Lovingly known as Big Noise, or G-Noise by his grandchildren, Richard was loud in the best way possible. For as loud as he could be, the quiet game of golf was ironically a constant for him. Richard cherished spending time on the golf course with friends and family. Nothing made him yell louder than the Texas Tech football team. As a devoted Red Raider, he more than enjoyed Texas Tech sports – especially football, baseball and basketball. He was a member of Lakeridge United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in the death by his father, Eugene Richard Standefer, Sr., his mother, Billie Jean Standefer and father in-law, Jan Clawson.
He is survived by his wife, Malinda, daughter Abby Scioli and husband Chris, daughter Amelia McKnight and husband Jeremy and five grandchildren whom he loved with his whole heart: Sophia Scioli, Kingston McKnight, Slade Scioli, Blaire McKnight and Harrison McKnight. He is also survived by sister, Valarie Zeeck and husband David; brother, Mike Standefer and wife Cathy; mother in-law Gloria Clawson; brother in-law Jan Clawson and wife Patty; brother in-law Carl Clawson and wife Libby as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. His beloved cocker spaniel, George Standefer, will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at LakeRidge United Methodist Church, at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 27th, with visitation Thursday, July 26th from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6085 82nd Street.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy McKnight, Chris Scioli, Ben Standefer, Phillip Zeeck, Michael Zeeck, Aaron Clawson, Jan Clawson, Jonathan Britton and Nate Britton.
