With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, Richard Henry Caffey. The quintessential Marlboro man and loving son of Henry and Helen Caffey was born May 3, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas. A racing enthusiast since childhood, he found joy as a go-carting champion and remained an avid racing fan … of Fords … across all racing genres.
As the spirited youngest child, he simply adored his older siblings. He cherished his late sister Barbara Burns’ quick wit and infectious laugh, and his continued tight bonds with his sister, Fran Foster, and brother, Tommy Caffey until the end. A proud father of Kenneth Caffey and Liz Caffey Blackman, and grandfather of Aiden and Graham, he remained ready to share countless pictures and stories of their accomplishments.
He was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was known as an exceptional electrician and staunch supporter of workers’ rights.
His kind heart and generosity made him a cherished friend, always ready to lend a hand to any person or stray cat who found themselves down on their luck. And the enduring friendship he shared with his beloved wife, Jan, was … in his words … his greatest accomplishment and his lifeline in life.
He departs too soon at 71, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love, friendship, and compassion. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you send memorial donations to the Lubbock IBEW Brotherhood fund. Those can be mailed to IBEW Local Union 602, PO Box 143, Amarillo, TX 79105.
