The family of Rebecca Lyanne Braus will host a gathering of family and friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers (6025 82nd St.). A service to celebrate her life of 40 years is scheduled at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Aldersgate Church (10306 Indiana Ave.). Rebecca Lyanne Braus was born September 2, 1982, to Jorge and Berta (Diaz) Cruz in Miami, FL. She married Ryan Braus on August 3, 2007, in Miami, Florida. They moved to Lubbock, Texas in the summer of 2008. Rebecca became a massage therapist, while she and Ryan started their family. During this time she gave birth to three amazing kids.

Rebecca was a very loving mother who was present and active in the lives of her children. She’d bake sweets for all of their functions. Rebecca loved to participate in every function like ballet, dancing, gymnastics, swimming lessons, and baseball. Rebecca loved to travel especially when she was able to see her family at the beach in Sarasota, and loved visiting her friends when she could.

In October of 2022, she was diagnosed with a rare type of Osteosarcoma. Rebecca fought her disease fiercely. She routinely surprised her nurses with how tough she was. Rebecca was feisty, authentic, and strong-willed, but she was also generous, kind, compassionate, and loving.

Rebecca is survived by her husband, Ryan Braus; children, Ethan Charles Braus, Mia Lyanne Braus, and Lilly Rose Braus; father, Jorge Cruz; mother, Berta Cruz; and brothers, Gabriel (Patty) Cruz and Nathaniel Cruz. She was preceded in death by her Grandmother Maria Luisa Diaz and Grandfather Ernesto Diaz.

Rebecca’s family suggests memorial contributions to Compassion International or Grace Campus in her memory.

Dear Becca, I can’t believe I’m typing these words, I spoke to you a few months ago and things were looking good for you. But our Heavenly Father has chosen you earlier than we thought. I remember attending seminary with you and all the LDS squad in Miami. I remember us dancing together at our church dances in high school, I remember going to camp with Johnny Ramon and helping out the young women in our ward. I remember your father being our Bishop and you being the perfect daughter. Becca it saddens me that you have left this earth, but I’m glad you’re no longer in pain and you made it to heaven. You were always a good friend and I will keep your memory in my heart forever. Your buddy, Rodney ROLO

I was blessed to spend a week with Rebecca while she was receiving treatments in Houston. I was blown away by her grace under fire and what was clearly a painful cancer. She had nothing but kindness for everyone around her and only thought of getting back to her children and husband. Heaven has a new angel with lots of experience down here on earth.

Sending to Braus & Cruz family support and a big hug from the distance on this difficult time. I’ve seen the support that Rebecca had from all of you, pictures that speak for themselves, I know she felt the love from each one of you. I remember her sweet voice and her laugh, a very unique soul with a big heart. Ryan, what a beautiful soul you’re and the beautiful children you guys have. My heart goes with you. Berta, my dear friend I’m always here for you. Gabriel, Nathaniel & Jorge I have you guys in my heart.

I loved my Becky boo as I would call her we worked together for 11 years I loved halloween time because she would always bring us treats she baked. I loved sitting in the break room and having conversations with her about family stories and her childhood and teenage years I loved when the cuban came out and she would get mad and feisty that finger would get to going and her voice would get louder and louder. I loved it so much. She was a beautiful soul inside and out and I’ll carry her in my heart forever I truly thank the lord that I was able to know her and call her friend. My prayers, thoughts and deepest condolences are with her husband family and children. Rip Becky Boo
