It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray Stuart, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ray was born on August 21, 1942, in Brady, Texas to Godfrey and Laura Stuart. Ray was a proud graduate from Richland Springs High School and Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education. Ray married the love of his life, Karen Townsend, in 1965 in San Saba, Texas. Ray enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and sharing his agricultural knowledge with others. He worked for over thirty years at Furr’s Inc. as the Greenhouse Manager and later owned and operated his own business, Stuart’s Greenhouse with his son, Reagan Stuart. Following his retirement, Ray worked for Avero Diagnostics as the Fleet Manager.
Throughout his life, Ray found joy in various hobbies, including cheering on his favorite team, Texas Tech, spending quiet moments hunting, tending to his garden, baking, or finding solace in the simple pleasure of watching and feeding the birds. You could find Ray at all his grandchildren’s sporting events, stock shows, One Act Play, or anything they enjoyed doing. Ray would spend hours at the Lubbock County Stock watching every single barrow class and choosing his favorite.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Karen Stuart; children, Reagan Stuart and wife Michelle, Renee Steele and husband Brian, and Rod Stuart; grandchildren, Ellen Stuart, Emily Stuart, Ben Steele, Katie Steele, Lauren Stuart, Garrett Stuart, and Cole Stuart; and a great-grandchild, Kohen Chavez. Additionally, he leaves behind sisters, Patsy Isham, Peggy Stewart and husband Joe, and Delinda Sorrells and husband Kinley; brother-in-law, Paul Townsend and wife Ann; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Tim Steele; and a brother-in-law, Worth Isham.
