The family of Ray Ehlers will celebrate his life of 74 years at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3708 45th St., Lubbock, Texas. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. He married Barbara Wuensche Ehlers on September 5, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilson, Texas. He retired from 50 years of farming in 2014. Ray was a devoted husband, daddy, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He loved spending time with his family, working the land, playing dominoes, visiting over coffee at the gin, fishing, and working Emmaus walks and reunion groups. Ray and Barbara spent many hours and drove numerous miles to watch their kids and grandkids compete in sports, stock shows, plays, and many other activities. He had a servant’s heart and dedicated many hours to his community and church by serving on numerous boards and committees.Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ehlers of 56 years; their children, David (Vicki) Ehlers, Melinda (Kim) McKinnon, and Paul (Lendi) Ehlers, all of Lubbock; grandchildren, Zachary Lindsey, Rhyan (Taylor) Ehlers, Reghan (Lance) Madry, Hayden Ehlers, Abby Ehlers, Brenan (Maddie) Ehlers, Keely Ehlers, Kolton (Kayleen) Ehlers, Chelsea Bingham, Courtney Bingham, Colt (Larissa) Waddle, Kayli Waddle, Jeff McKinnon, Josh (Sarah) McKinnon, Katlyn McKinnon, Joseph (Hannah) McKinnon; great-grandchildren, Tripp Ehlers, Ryder Madry, Ruston Ehlers, Lailyn Ehlers (due in April), Kyler McKinnon, Colton McKinnon, Hannah McKinnon, and Ben McKinnon; and sister, Verlene Stegemoeller.Ray is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nicolas Ehlers; siblings, Onita Steinhauser, Arlis Ehlers, Milton Ehlers, Jimmie Allen Ehlers, and Karen Lou Ehlers.
