Philip Smitherman, a good man, was born October 18, 1933, in South Plains, Texas. Philip was welcomed by his Lord and Savior into his heavenly home on February 11, 2025.
Visitation with the family will be in the church parlor of the First Baptist Church, Floydada from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday February 14. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 15 at 2:00pm in the First Baptist Church in Floydada.
Philip grew up on the family farm in South Plains with his parents E.P and Ruth Smitherman and his younger brother Larry. Philip first attended school in South Plains and later in Floydada.
Among Philip’s proudest achievements was marrying his soulmate Mildred Bean in 1953 and helping to raise his two sons, Marc and Monty. Philip and Mildred farmed in the South Plains community and were active in the Baptist church there. Philip and Mildred moved to Floydada where they made their home for 43 years until the passing of Mildred in 2016.
Philip was a good and loyal friend to all and loved to help those that were in need. Most of all, Philip loved his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son Marc and his wife Michele of Maryville, TN; son Monty of Silverton; grandson Jake and his wife Erika of Knoxville, TN; brother Larry and his wife Marlene of Austin, TX, and niece K’lyn of Austin.
The family would like to thank all the loving caretakers at Matador Nursing and Rehabilitation, Interim Hospice and the prayers and well wishes of all during the challenging times of the last few months.
