Alma Patricia Ramirez McMenamy was born in Monterrey, Mexico on March 21, 1953, and peacefully passed away on September 6, 2023.
Called Patty or Patsy by her friends and family, and Mimi by her grandchildren, she was a long-time resident of Lubbock and San Antonio, Texas. Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Maria Hoyos and Oscar Ramirez, her son Jeffy, her brother Oscar Ramirez, and her brother Lou Ramirez. She is survived by her son Josh McMenamy of Lubbock; her daughter Adriana Lowrey, son-in-law Tim Lowrey, grandchildren Carter Lowrey and Annaliese Lowrey, all of Humble, Texas; also survived by her former husband Alan McMenamy of Lubbock, Texas. Patty’s surviving siblings are Lucy Mendoza of Salt Lake City, Utah, Adriana Haase of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Victor Ramirez of Boerne, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews remember and honor Patty.
She is beloved by her family and friends. Mimi, as she is known by Carter and Annaliese, adored her grandchildren. She relished visits with them in Humble, Lubbock, San Antonio and various other places. A compassionate and well-educated professional, Patty was a lifelong contributor to humanity. Patty graduated from San Antonio’s Providence High School where she made lifelong friends.
She earned a Master of Education from Texas Tech University in 1983 and she worked as a teacher in Lubbock public schools. In 1987 she earned her Master of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University and worked as a behavioral health therapist for the remainder of her career. Working in a variety of organizations, including private, public, and nonprofit settings, Patty engaged hundreds of clients and families to teach coping skills and ease suffering.
Patty, a lifelong learner with a worldly outlook, loved to travel for fun and for professional development. Her favorite cities include San Antonio, Monterrey, Cancun, Belize, Santa Fe and any place with a beach.
Patty’s Yorkshire terriers, Lala and Lulu, aka “the girls,” were her dear companions. Indeed, dozens of pets – dogs, cats, and birds – found a home in Patty’s house where they enjoyed her unconditional love.
Patty is beloved by her family, colleagues, and large circle of friends. She is known for her kindness and sense of humor, and her healing spirit. She is mourned by many, and while we all miss her tremendously, we are brightened by our faith and her reunion with her son Jeffy and her brothers and parents.
