Patricia Yvonne Wood

Patricia Yvonne Wood, 84, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, after an extended illness in Lubbock, Texas.

She was born June 14, 1941, in Mexia, Texas, to John and Janie Smith. In her early years, she grew up in Mexia, later marrying her husband of 66 years, Dwayne.

They moved from Texas to Causey, New Mexico, to begin their educational careers in teaching. They taught for a combined total of 54 years before retiring from Tatum Municipal Schools in 1991. Patricia graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales with a Master’s Degree in Business Education.

She served on the Leaco Rural Telephone Board for several years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She delighted in hearing of her students’ many accomplishments over the years, teaching them the skill of typing with accuracy and speed.

Her many beloved hobbies included reading, gardening, picking pecans, sewing, and collecting Precious Moments figurines.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Dwayne, daughter, Beverly, sister, Anna, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

Private graveside services will be held for the immediate family at a later date in the Shiloh Cemetery, Shiloh, Texas.
