Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Newell Loveless, was called to his heavenly home Sunday, March 6, 2022.  He never met a stranger, was a true blessing to all, and will be deeply missed until that glad day we meet again.

Newell Robert was born to Ernest and Edith Loveless in May 1929 in Abernathy, TX. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947. While working as a printer, he met and then married the love of his life, Joy, in July 1950. They raised three loving children, Edie, LeAnn, and Robert. After 40 years in sales and management, he retired from Scoggin Dickey Buick in 1993.

“At your service” might best describe the life focus and Christian philosophy of Newell. He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ where he served as a greeter, usher, Deacon (40 yrs.), Elder (11 yrs.), and Bible teacher (22 yrs.). In our community, he was a member of Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Lubbock Children’s Home Board, delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years, and volunteered for 15 years at Covenant Hospital.  He loved playing games with family and friends, after retirement, could often be found enjoying a game of golf at Hillcrest.

Newell was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kim, nephew, Keith; brothers-in-law Mickey Tarkington and Marvin Dobbins.

He is survived by his wife, Joy; children, Edie and Dale Williams, LeAnn and Cliff Morris, and Robert and Kim Loveless; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ernestine Dobbins, Geneva Tarkington, Nancy Abbott Loveless Blake; seven nephews and several great-nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the Neil Chapel, Carillon Senior Living, 1717 Norfolk, Lubbock, TX.
