Nelda Ruth Hovden Beard passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, in San Antonio, TX, after a lengthy struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 79 years on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with the Rev. Steve Wagner officiating and the Rev. Sid Hill assisting.
Nelda Ruth was born August 19, 1938, in Cunningham, Texas to W.L. and Ruby Holbert. She married Alton Hovden June 22, 1956, in Lubbock. He passed away July 20, 2000. She married Don Beard September 30, 2002.
Nelda lived the majority of her life in Lubbock with a few years in Maud, OK. She worked in Lubbock at Smylie Wilson Junior High School and then retired from American State Bank in 1999 after a 25 year career in banking. Nelda moved to Ingram, Texas in 2012. She enjoyed spending many months each year in her vacation homes in Mesa, Arizona and later Pendaries, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Al Hovden.
Survivors include her husband, Don Beard; daughter, Kim Williams and husband, Jeff of Schertz, TX; son, Michael Hovden of Houston, TX; and brother, Charles Holbert and wife, Penny of Denton, TX. She is also survived by her dearly loved granddaughters and their families, Julie Williams and her son, Jack Parker Irvin of San Antonio; and Jana Williams Acosta and husband, Bobby and their daughter, Ava Lane of New Braunfels, Texas.
Other survivors are her step-children and their families step-son, Kerry Beard and wife, Sharon and their daughters, Avery and Emma; step-son, Curt Beard and daughter, Kerris Beard; and step-daughter, Lana Sossaman husband, Bruce and their daughters, Shonda Barnett and Shyla Tatum.
