Mildred Mae Smith passed away July 4, 2018. She was born on August 22, 1935 to Thomas and Eula (Wiggins) Jordan.
Mildred moved to Lubbock in 1957 and was active in the community through work and volunteer activities. Mildred retired from Texas Tech University where she served as Assistant to the Dean of Education. After retirement, she worked at Grace Presbyterian Church and LakeRidge United Methodist Church and volunteered at UMC as well as Meals on Wheels. She was a long-standing member of LakeRidge United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included playing piano, gardening, needlework, traveling, playing the WII, crossword puzzles, bridge, and spades. She especially enjoyed serving as a Judge for the Needlework Women’s Division at the South Plains Fair.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Ellen Jordan; and her brother, Kenneth Wayne Jordan. She is survived by her son, Steven Wayne Smith and wife Kim of Lubbock, Texas; daughter, Linda Gail Jordan Smith Brown and husband Jerry of San Leon, Texas; half-sister, Sandra Guthrie of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; granddaughters, Ginger Ellen Penn and wife Amy of Wolfforth, Texas and Casey Layne Steadman and husband Vince of Salem, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Lucus Steadman and Christian Meador.
