On September 2, 1966, Mike Tomlinson was born in Avon Park, Florida to the late Collis Avnel and Ruth (Belisle) Tomlinson. Mike grew up with a burning passion for baseball and loved the sport even through his sons. His love for baseball turned into a love for golf. Mike was a family man who loved those around him dearly, especially his wife and kids. He would do anything for anyone, regardless of knowing them or not without question and without expectations of anything in return. Mike was a teacher, coach, and mentor to everyone he came in contact with. Mike married the love of his life, Wendy, in 1999 and was the best husband. He was on fire for his daughter’s cheer and dance teams. No matter the sport or event for any one of his children, Mike was always there in the front row as their biggest supporter. Mike’s faith in his Lord and Savior was what he lived for. He was passionate about his talent at the hands of the grill. He was the grill master and cook and nobody ever left his kitchen hungry. Mike loved his work as General Manager of Hartman Roofing and looked forward to each day and the opportunities of people he would be able to help. Mike never met a stranger and touched the hearts of those around him through his generosity, love, and compassion. He made an impact on everyone he spoke to, no matter their age. To know Mike was to love Mike, and his legacy will carry on.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister Connie Taylor, and his beloved Big Max.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Tomlinson; children, Justin Tomlinson and fiancée Kate McLean, Josh Tomlinson and wife Ashley; Taylor Tomlinson, Jake Fenter and wife Chelsea and Justin Fenter and wife Emily; grandsons, Braxton, Barret, and Norrin; and a sister, Michele Johnson and husband Carl, and their children Robert, Kaylee, and Micah.

Wendy & Family, we were so very sorry to read of Mike's passing! We came to his service yesterday. What a glorious celebration! He was truly a wonderful man. We got to know him first through our daughter, Brandi Bowen, who was his co-worker at Cooper South. She adored him and truly loved working with him. She always had a funny story to tell about him. We got to know him personally through his side jobs of fencing and roofing and then with Hartman. Brandon saw him a lot at Market Street. In every meeting, no matter the circumstances, he always had that huge smile and genuine caring. Hello, my name is Mackenzie Ford. Mr.T was my 5th grade teacher and he completely changed my life. He was a man who cared about his students and how they felt, he was able to watch me graduate and that meant the world to me to see him after and know that he watched me grow. When I was in his class he loved the Florida Gators, so every chance I had I would either draw him something of the gators or get him something that reminded me of the team. Y’all were very lucky to have someone so special, caring, and loving like that in y’all’s lives. He impacted my whole family’s life in a way no one ever has. I give my condolences. Mr.T is home and safe.

I am sorry for your loss. Mike was the kindest person I ever and a darn good basketball player. I will always remember his smile and compassion for others. He was my best friend at work. Fly high my friend fly high. You will be dearly missed.

Mike T, you will be so missed by my family and I. I will miss walking into your house and seeing that huge smile welcome me in and all of the jokes you always made. I hope you’re playing all of the rounds of golf you want on the most beautiful courses made up in heaven with the clubs God had waiting for you. Fly so high, Angel. Stu and I are so saddened by this news. A flood of memories came over me thinking back to when we worked together at Woodlawn Elementary. Those were fun times. Mike always had a way of making me laugh. Holding the entire family close to our hearts.

We are deeply saddened at the loss of such an amazing man. Mr. T was a phenomenal teacher, coworker and person. His smile, laugh and overall joyful/playful spirit will be remembered. My favorite memory of him is how he would always "let" the kids kill the spiders in class. 😉 It is a blessing to know him. We are truly sorry for your loss and pray peace for you as we know that he is with his Savior now.

Such a good guy. We only knew Mike a short while, but found him solid, honest, and caring for us in meeting our needs. A big loss for all of us. We are better for knowing him.
