With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael K. McCoy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 15, 1939, to the late R. K. and Maggie (Brown) McCoy in Lockney, TX, Michael lived a full life, filled with love, adventure, and laughter.
Michael graduated from Whiteface High School and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1961. After the military, he found his calling in communications, working for Southwestern Bell/AT&T and retiring as a District Manager at the age of 51. In retirement, Michael discovered a passion for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces that he shared with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, often spending hours fishing, hunting, or hiking.
Throughout his life, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church and was previously involved with the Rotary Club, always looking for ways to give back to the community.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Janie McCoy; his sons, Keith (Patricia) McCoy and Kevin (Melinda) McCoy; grandchildren, Jimmy McCoy, Kelsey (Will) Thompson, Davis (Laurin) Ray, and Kinsley (James) Caden; great-grandchildren, Dash Ray and Livie Ray; as well as his brothers Johnny (Linda) McCoy and Gary (Lea) McCoy; sisters-in-law Carolyn Wade (Dwayne); Jeanette Rothmund (Bill); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held on February 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church Ford Chapel, where we will gather to honor his memory and share stories of the incredible man he was.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation be given to a charity of your choice in Micheal’s memory.
John 12:24
Truly, truly I say to you, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
