It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary Vickers, who peacefully left this world on November 15, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. Born in Ringling, OK on January 20, 1939, to Henry and Beulah (Wade) Hammons, Mary was an incredible woman known for her dedication and care as a Registered Nurse for over 55 years.
Having moved to Floydada, TX during her teenage years and later settling in Lubbock, TX 25 years ago, Mary spent much of her career working alongside Dr. Jack G. Jordan in Floydada and Hale Center, TX until her well-deserved retirement a decade ago. She made a lasting impact in the medical field and touched the lives of many with her compassionate nursing care.
Mary Alice found joy in many simple pleasures of life, including traveling, vegetable gardening, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored. Her family meant the world to her, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her loving sons, Mike Vickers and wife Ann and Todd Vickers and wife Tammy. Nana’s grandchildren, Kasey Vickers and wife Megan, Ambree Smith and husband Kent, Tanner Vickers and wife Tamara, Kaitlin Peyton and husband Jared, and Taylor Vickers; great-grandchildren, Macklin Vickers, Creighton Vickers, Hannah Smith, Addyson Vickers, Maisey Vickers, Levi Smith, and Jake Peyton; sisters, Pat Barber, and Nancy Welborn; brothers, Von Hammons and wife Nina and Eddie Hammons and wife Ofelia, and numerous nieces and nephews who will deeply miss her presence in their lives.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Beulah Hammons, and brother, Ellie Hammons.
To honor Mary’s life and memory, a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We invite all those who knew and loved Mary to join us in celebrating her remarkable life and the legacy she leaves behind. She may be gone, but her kindness and warmth will forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests memorial donations to the Garrison Geriatric Education and Care Center, 3710 4th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79415 in memory of Mary.
