It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary J. Parra, beloved mother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on March 1, 2025, at the age of 98. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Mary was the third eldest of twelve children to the late Carlos L. and Aurelia N. Rangel. She was preceded in death by her three brothers and six sisters, as well as her cherished husband, Lt. Col. Pete Parra, USAF, Ret., who passed away in 2021.
Mary is survived by her devoted son, Richard A. Parra of Dallas, Texas and her loving daughter, Mary Elizabeth Parra, also of Dallas, Texas. She is further survived by her brother, Joseph Rangel of Georgetown, Texas and her sister, Olivia Lopez of Fresno, California. Additionally, she leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Ramona Parra of Amarillo, Texas and Florence Parra of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A proud graduate of Lubbock High School in May 1946, Mary went on to attend Texas Tech University, where she majored in English. She embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and dedication, supporting her family throughout her husband’s military career as an officer’s wife. A long-standing member of the Greater Lubbock Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA), Mary was also a devoted member of the Christ the King Parish and the Women’s Organization for over 50 years.
